On the subject of disciplining children, it will actually be a case to case basis. In the event that your child is the type who is spending most of their time being upset or angry and crying and screaming and you are not seeing differences in their behavior, then you might have to admit to start changing your approach in disciplining your kids.

Whether timeouts work or not, it will entirely depend on the:

  • Level of temperament
  • Personality of your children
  • Stage of development
  • Age and;
  • How timeouts are used

Timeouts might just be that thing that your children needs in order for them to calm down and think of their behavior but for other kids, they might set off emotional upset and screaming.

If timeouts is not solving any behavioral problems, then it is best to consider other approaches in disciplining your child.

Keep Your Cool

Don’t look timeouts as if it’s the last resort in your arsenal in disciplining your kids. What’s important is, you stay connected and communicating effectively with them. You may or may not succeed at first but just keep on trying.

You’re a Parent

Always keep in mind that you’re their parent, you’re their role model and it is your job to figure out how you would raise your child and turn negative behaviors upside down.
