Tips For DB Rail Traveling with Family

Families can go on holiday cheaply by train. So that you arrive relaxed at the destination station, you only have to pay attention to a few basic things like checking deutsche bahn fahrplan.

Travelling by train is comfortable, cheap for families and not bad for the environment either.

Book with DB in advance as possible and take advantage of savings prices

The railway offers a large contingent of saver fare tickets on almost all long-distance routes. They can sell this out quickly depending on demand, especially of course on popular routes, for school holidays and on bank holiday weekends. You pay up to 50 percent less for saver fare tickets. So it is definitely worth booking your tickets early.

It is important to calculate precisely. Despite constant price increases, you can still go on vacation extremely cheaply.

Reserve seats at DB for your family

As a family, you pay a flat rate to reserve a seat, no matter how many seats you need. It’s worth it when travelling with three people. In most ICs and ICEs, you can choose where you want to sit on the train when booking.

With babies, you should secure places in a compartment if possible, preferably in the legendary toddler compartment. Here you have space to park the stroller, quiet for breastfeeding and a nap. Toddlers can crawl around and with a little luck, there is even play equipment so that your children can move around a little.

With older children, you are better off in a normal compartment or in an open-plan car with a table. Here you can play, paint and eat more comfortably.

Db train: Keep your hands free for young children

deutsche bahn fahrplan

You shouldn’t leave your children unattended on the platform until they reach elementary school. Children often need helping or guiding hands when getting on and off steep stairs or in a dense crowd. Prepare yourself accordingly so that you have at least one hand free for each child travelling with you while you are getting in and out.

That means, you pack sparingly and ideally use a backpack that leaves both hands free. Up to kindergarten age, you can wonderfully transport your little child in a baby carrier. Then you have both hands free again for suitcases and you don’t have to worry about children running away or stumbling.
