Ah cake. My love of cake has really come about since being on maternity leave. There’s a gorgeous shop round the corner from us with the biggest cakes I’ve ever seen. I made it my mission to try out each of them by the time my maternity leave was up…and I didn’t do too badly! 4 o’clock is definitely cake o’ clock in our house.
I’d heard of Baker Days letterbox cakes before and was intrigued to try one. As the title suggests, they can be posted through the letterbox so are the perfect present or surprise gift. I think it’s one step further than posting a birthday or anniversary card and the size is perfect to be enjoyed between two. Another bonus for me was that you can personalise all the cakes – you can either upload your own picture or you can personalise the cake with the recipient’s name. Plus it comes with a lovely little card, packet of Love Hearts and a candle…that has win win win written all over it.
My other half’s had a particularly busy few weeks – work is super busy and on top of that the trains are delayed almost every journey. So by the time Thursday comes, he’s had enough. I thought, what better way to cheer him up than with a surprise cake?! I chose a Bright Side cake as I’ve always loved the design. Plus they are exactly what they say, they brighten up my day and I love receiving one of their cards for a birthday.
He hates surprises so this was a bit of a risk, but I went for it! I think after 6 years he’s actually quite used to the fact that I love surprising him, so goes with the flow a bit now. His only comment was “that’s a really nice tin”. And he’s right, it is a good one and lovely that it comes presented so well.
We both loved the cake – the icing wasn’t too thick or sweet and had a gorgeous buttercream layer, which I loved. The vanilla sponge was perfectly moist too and it went so well with an afternoon cup of tea. And within a few minutes, it was all gone. Delicious cake Baker Days, thanks for letting us try it out!
If you’d like to surprise someone with a letterbox cake, you can find Baker Days via their website, Twitter, Facebook or Instagram. Baker Days kindly provided this complimentary cake for the purpose of this review.
