Spring is my favourite time of year – when the sun comes out and everything seems that little bit brighter. It’s been my first winter with a baby and to be completely honest I’ve felt a bit restricted in what we can do each day. Ordinarily I love going for walks, especially as we live by the sea, but there was a few weeks in January where every time we would go out in the buggy, even rugged up with snowsuits and woolly hats, Emma would catch a cold and would struggle to sleep and go off her food too (something I’m always keen to avoid!).
So the appearance of the sun has made my soul sing and yesterday was the perfect day to go out to the park. We met up with a mummy friend of mine whom I met when I moved to Brighton; I didn’t really know anyone when I arrived and it’s been so lovely to meet someone like-minded. The girls also love seeing each other and are becoming best buds each time we meet up.
There were a few things that made me really happy – seeing Emma watch the older kids play and watching her size it all up. Also seeing her really enjoy the lying down swing – I first took her to the swings at 6 months old and looking back she wasn’t quite ready for it; she’s actually only just started crawling properly so that makes sense now!
Afterwards came my final triumph of the day, as Emma ate her dinner in the cafe with no fuss at all…the first time ever! Sometimes it feels like I’m always rushing home so she can eat in the house. Because that’s what it’s about with these long days – it’s the small improvements that show you that we’re doing good, even if tomorrow’s is a different and unpredictable story.
