Well hello there June! I can’t believe another month has passed and a whole month I have been away from commuting to London. It has been a bit of an adjustment on my part but for the better I think – life is a little less chaotic and I’m enjoying it. There has been such a lot going on this month and I’m so glad I’ve committed to doing these round-ups, or else the months would just drift on without me even noticing.
As I type this the sunshine has come out in Brighton, which I’m really hopeful will stay. Living in this seaside town, the sunshine always brings the crowds to the city but it’s just magical being able to sit on the beach and not hurry back to the car as it got too windy. So let’s keep our fingers crossed that the sun will keep his hat on for a little while longer…til September perhaps?!
On The Blog
Blog On MSI – I was pretty nervous about going to Blog On as my first conference at BritMums Live last year made me so anxious. It’s crazy how hard I find it when I can be much more confident on social media, but I remember seeing some bloggers I really admired and not approaching them, but then regretting it afterwards. Blog On is such a lovely conference; I had no nerves throughout and found everyone to be super friendly. I was invited to a little dinner with some bloggers I’d been really looking forward to meeting and this was fab to break to ice a little. The sessions were fantastic and I learned a lot from Coin de Mel‘s photo styling and Toby and Roo’s Instagram to Insta-bank talks. I’d definitely recommend it if you’re thinking of attending in September (although I believe it’s waiting list only at the moment).
Getting Away to Leicester & Bluestone – I’ve written before that this year I’ve been trying to focus on the days out and ‘adventures’ side of my blog. This is something I’ve been enjoying and it’s helped shape a new style of photography too. So I was very excited when we were invited to review the Stay & Play Explore Family Weekend in Leicester and most recently a week’s break at Bluestone Wales. We had a fantastic time and it’s been lovely to get away as a family!
5K Instagram Giveaway – I was pretty chuffed to reach 5,000 followers over on Instagram at the beginning of May so I hosted a giveaway with some fantastic brands. It’s probably only the third time I’ve hosted a giveaway so it made me all nervous that no-one would enter but it went very well!
Tots100 & improvements – Some time ago, I decided that I would stop looking at my stats. I’m not alone in this arena and if you haven’t seen my brilliant friend Dawn from Rhyming With Wine’s post The Stat Race, it’s such a great read and sums it all up really. But I have to confess that when things do move in the right direction, it does make me smile & I was pleased to reach #197 on Tots100 and see my DA climb to 35 this month. Of course unless you’re a blogger that’ll be gobbeldigook…
Celebrating birthdays – May is always a big month for birthdays in our family, we celebrated my birthday and my mum’s too. After Emma’s birthday in April, we had got in a bit of a habit of singing happy birthday to her every night before bedtime, so it did come as an awful shock when she had to sing happy birthday to me! It was quite a low key affair but we did go out to Moshimo, a sushi restaurant by the seafront and that was spectacular. I am hoping we’ll go back soon so I can write a little bit about it, as the sushi was out of this world. My mum’s birthday was only recently and we also had a lovely time celebrating with my brother, sister-in-law and perfectly cuddly nephew.
Time away to recharge – When I went to Blog On in Manchester, I had two whole days to myself. It was a bit of a strange feeling to be honest and I realised that Emma is like my security blanket and I feel odd and a little anxious without her. But it was much needed on my part, as the change to now working from home has been much more of a transition than I realised. The Brucie Bonus of the weekend (although it didn’t seem it at the time): the Air BnB I booked was a dodgy deal so I ended up checking into the Malmaison at the last minute. What an amazing treat that was!
Emma speech/communication – This is my favourite part of this month, Emma’s speech has come on leaps and bounds. We’re now having little conversations and I’m discovering that my daughter is A. very bossy and B. the cheekiest little thing! Of course it’s all highly entertaining and most of the time I have to stop myself from laughing out loud. It’s a wonderful development though and I can just see how (some of) her frustrations are melting away.
Things To Look Forward To
Father’s Day – I really should get my thinking cap on for this one but it’ll be lovely to get together and spoil my other half for the day. I just spied a local picnic in the park so perhaps that’s where we’ll be…
A very exciting collaboration – at the end of June, I’m heading off with a few other bloggers for an exciting collaboration without the toddler. Which means a little break for mama and I’m so looking forward to it.
Me and Orla Instagram Course – this one I’m very excited about and have made a start today. I signed up to the Me and Orla #bloomandgrow course to learn a bit more about Instagram. I love Sara’s pictures and am so intrigued as to what her tips are, plus I’m sure there’ll be a bit of inspiration along the way. I’ll keep you posted and I’m sure I’ll write about it soon enough!
So that rounds up our super busy month! The good news is that June is a bit more of a ‘stay put in Brighton’ month, which I am all for…there’s something about travelling with kids that isn’t all that relaxing, who’s with me? Hope you have had a fantastic month of May too.
