What’s In My Room 101?

Room 101 is a favourite in our house – I mean, who doesn’t love that show! We’ve recently made it into a family game too where my stepson is the gameshow host and we all play along….hours of fun. So I thought it was time I shared some of my favourites here – things that wind me up a little bit and I definitely wouldn’t mind throwing into my own Room 101!

So without further ado:

1 – Cats

This is number one for a reason and I know this will inevitably cause offence to any number of people who own a cat or used to own a cat or who’s parents have a friendly cat that I would love. #sorrynotsorry I find them calculating mean, and a little bit scary if I’m totally honest. And before you ask, it’s all cats and I’m not willing to discuss the irrationality of this one.

2 – Jay cloths

I have a part-joke, part-‘this is deadly serious’ ongoing debate with my other half. Sponges vs Jay cloths. He can’t get enough of a Jay cloth but I can’t stand them…even the thought of a wet Jay cloth makes me shudder. It’s a very boring debate that we often have but definitely throwing these bad boys in Room 101!

3 – It’s ask not aks

It started a few years back, I heard a teenager say ‘aks’ on the bus, and for a moment I thought I hadn’t heard correctly. Then it happened again and again, to the point that I think I heard it once on a rap song too. To me, it’s the equivalent of mistaking your for you’re – it’s wrong and I wish it would be stopped.

4 – Teabags in the sink

This is probably my biggest household related pet peeve and I once moved out of a flatshare as my lovely flatmate just couldn’t stop hurling the teabags into the sink. The bin was right there! And quite frankly, if you have a tenacious need to avoid putting them in the bin, you need to invest in a teabag holder. Let’s keep things civilised.

5 – Watercooler talk

Having recently gone back to work, I was reminded of the small talk that goes on at various times throughout the day. In the lift, making a cup of tea, at the photocopier. I am so bad at it! It makes me feel very nervous and I have been known to delay my printing needs by 10 minutes to ensure I don’t have to engage in the chit chat…anti-social, me?!

Room 101 - teabags in the sink

So there you have it, my Room 101 and boy that was therapeutic! Hope you enjoyed reading my little rants and let me know in the comments below what you would throw in yours if you had the chance. Big thanks to my pal Jane at Maflingo who gave me this fab idea – do go and check out her post too.

You are welcome, Bridie! I loved this! I now realise many of your room 101s need adding to mine!!! Cats -put em in! Those slimy jay cloths!!! I thought it was just me! Sponges rule! Brilliant!

  2. October 11, 2016 / 6:47 am

Ha ha, I love this idea. I’m a cat lover I’m afraid but I can totally understand why people don’t like them. I’m totally with you on the last three though, especially ‘aks’, that one drives me up the wall!

  3. October 11, 2016 / 6:50 am

Fab post! Love this idea, you should have made it into a tag because it’s fun. I’m with you on the T-bags and cats Hun. I’m a dog lover! #DreamTeam

  4. October 11, 2016 / 6:51 am

Tea bags in the sink?!?? Argggggggggh. Yeah we can relate to that! Nice reading others rants for a change 😉 xx #DreamTeam

  5. October 11, 2016 / 7:07 am

I’m with you on the Jay cloths – just use a sponge, FFS! I also hate those little scrubbing brushes – they aren’t nearly as effective as sponges, but that’s all that some people use to wash their dishes! Madness. My husband is always throwing tea bags in the sink and it drives me nuts – there’s no need when there’s a perfectly good bin nearby. #DreamTeam

  6. October 11, 2016 / 7:43 am

I love Room 101 too and I’d stick fake nails in there. Can’t stand them and there are just too many of them in our house! Alison x #DreamTeam

  7. October 11, 2016 / 9:09 am

I agree with you on all of these apart from number 1, sorry I just can’t get enough of cays haha. U would be just like you and wait to print stuff to avoid the pointless small talk xx thanks fir hosting #dreamteam

  8. October 11, 2016 / 9:16 am

Tea bags in the sink!!! arggh! I no someone who does this and it really gets on my nerves!! DreamTeam

  9. October 11, 2016 / 9:25 am

haha, I’m with you on small talk and teabags in the sink! I too had to move out of flat share because of that one 🙂 #dreamteam

  10. October 11, 2016 / 9:49 am

Pahahahaaaa! This made me laugh! I love this post and Room 101 too! Definitely agree about the J cloth thing. My mum uses a dishcloth (one of those white ones that ALWAYS smells) and I think they’re horrendous. Cats though? Really? Not allowed! Thanks for making me chuckle this morning 🙂

  11. October 11, 2016 / 9:50 am

I’m with you on the cat thing! I just don’t trust cats and always think they are up to something! And tea bags in the sink? Ohhh that would drive me insane!! I’ve never heard of aks? I would put bae in room 101, that does my head in!!! #dreamteam

  12. October 11, 2016 / 10:03 am

Omg, are you actually me?! I agree with all of these! My husband says aks and it bugs me so much! He always complains that I correct his speak (he also says “his” instead of “he’s”) but I can’t help it, it’s a compulsion. He also puts teabags in the sink instead of the bin!! And since returning to work, I’m so awkward with small talk, it makes me come across as really rude sometimes! I actually listen out to make sure the kitchen is empty before I go and make my tea #sociallyawkward. Great post, thanks for making me laugh! #DreamTeam

  13. October 11, 2016 / 10:29 am

I’d never before given much thought to being offended by a jay cloth but now you mention it, they’re grim beasts! They always smell of damp after a day as well. Also dislike teabags in sinks and kitchen chat. Hmm well I do have a cat but he’s literally been cat nabbed by a neighbour who feeds him gammon and cream so can I throw her into room 101 please?

  14. October 11, 2016 / 11:06 am

agh small talk at work. what about that awful moment when there’s only you and one other person in the meeting room waiting for everyone else to arrive? usually someone incredibly senior. so cringe. lets accept that silence is entirely preferable in these situations – into room 101 it goes!

  15. October 11, 2016 / 11:52 am

The ‘street’ talk thing is totally gross. I remember my Mum hearing Damage sing ‘aks’ in their version of Beautiful Tonight and getting livid about it! I get it now #dreamteam

  16. October 11, 2016 / 12:40 pm

Hah! Great idea! Hilarious. I’m a jaycloth woman so really, we are fundamentally different people. I’m with you on the cats and ‘ask’ though! #DreamTeam.

  17. October 11, 2016 / 12:52 pm

Great post! I can relate to a few of these 😉

  18. October 11, 2016 / 2:18 pm

I am totally with you on cats (I’m not an animal person at all!). And teabags in the sink – aaargh! I have a cleaning job and the person that I clean for leaves their teabags in the sink ALL THE TIME! Noooo! I’ve never come across the ‘aks’ though. Maybe it depends what part of the country you’re in. #DreamTeam

  19. October 11, 2016 / 2:30 pm

Bridie you do make me laugh! I am so with you on the teabags in the sink and the water cooler talk – #awkward!! Thanks for hosting #dreamteam

  20. October 11, 2016 / 2:51 pm

Ha ha I love Room 101 but I couldn’t put my beloved cats in it – although you are right they are oddly clever! I am with you with teabags in the sink tho – what is that all about!!!!!!!!!! xxx #dreamteam

  21. October 11, 2016 / 6:51 pm

The word ‘jay cloth’ drives me mad! Love this post #DreamTeam

  22. October 11, 2016 / 7:16 pm

Aks?! It took me many minutes of saying this to even get my head around it. What in the world? Completely agree with that one getting locked down in Room 101. Sounds like such fun making this into a game. I don’t think my list would ever end however haha! #DreamTeam

  23. October 11, 2016 / 8:04 pm

What a fab post idea. I completely get the tea-bag thing. Luckily, Mr Buttons doesn’t do this, but it happens a lot at work. Thanks for co-hosting the #DreamTeam with me. xx

  24. October 11, 2016 / 8:35 pm

Tea bags in the sink is so frustrating!! I’m a total animal lover though – cats included!

  25. October 11, 2016 / 8:40 pm

My cat is definitely calculatingly mean and scary but that’s kind of why I love her. The dog is not quite as keen. If we’re talking grammar I’d like to get rid of ‘get off of’ and ‘could/would/should of’. No no no. #DreamTeam

  26. October 11, 2016 / 10:28 pm

I have never scene this how! After this wonderful post I will have to check it out! #DreamTeam

  27. October 12, 2016 / 1:20 am

With you on cats. I am also allergic to them.

I would also add snoring to Room 101. My husband’s snoring puts me off going to bed! #DreamTeam

  28. October 12, 2016 / 3:00 pm

Ahhhhh who puts teabags in the sink!!! No. No. No. There’s a lot I could put in. I think my comment would turn into a blog post if I listed them all. Snoring and people (my husband) putting non recycling in the recycling. Oh it’s annoying!!

  29. October 12, 2016 / 6:55 pm

This is a great idea for a post. I’ve a feeling you may have just started something!! I have a cat but I’ve gone off her fast recently after she attacked me for no good reason! I could have a field day with this! 🙂 #DreamTeam

  30. October 12, 2016 / 9:43 pm

    Oh dear poor cats………..
But teabags in the sink is gross, definitely in.
I’m adding – people who leave their personal rubbish on trains (one for the commuters!)

    This is a great idea.

  31. October 12, 2016 / 10:13 pm

I’ve never really thought about it before but this sounds like a great game to play in the house. I’ve seen it a few times and really enjoyed the show. I’m the same with the teabags. #DreamTeam

Teabags in the sink?! Arrghhh *pulls hair out* – I can’t stand that either and also plates with left-over bits not scraped off the plate before it goes in the sink… I.. HATE.. THAT! Lol – I do have to say with the whole ‘aks/ask’ thing it doesn’t bother me as much because I hear a lot of people that get their grammar mixed up like using the word ‘brought’ when it should be ‘bought’ as it they’ve just paid for something.. I tried correcting the person but they were adamant that I was wrong and they were using the right term. -_- Great post Bridie! 🙂 #DreamTeam

  33. October 13, 2016 / 7:43 am

Oh no! I wouldn’t put cats in there! Teabags in the sink however, gross! #DreamTeam

  34. October 13, 2016 / 4:49 pm

Haha this is so much fun! I agree you should make it a tag/challenge thing. I especially agree with the the ask not aks, and probably many other grammatical errors which drive me crazy! #DreamTeam

  35. October 14, 2016 / 9:32 am

Hahaha water cooler chat sucks, is it bad that I have gone to get water and completely ignored someone? lol oh well I’ll be deemed a bitch I guess. I also do not like cats, they are very calculating, perfect word to describe a cat. The tea thing is weird, I haven’t really experienced this but that would really annoy me, the sink is usually really close to the trash anyway right?! Thanks for sharing with #StayClassyMama!

  36. October 14, 2016 / 10:08 am

Just popping back again! Trying to think what I would add to Room 101….my kids? NO! I’m joking 😉 #FridayFrolics

  37. October 14, 2016 / 8:04 pm

I luuuurve this! Totally with you on most of these too. “Aks” makes my teeth itch. I also hate “I should of”. No. You shouldn’t “of” anything. “Of” is not a verb. Grrrrrr! I would also have to add my two irrational hated objects. Coat-hangers and cling-film. Both of them get tangled / stuck onto other things and themselves far too easily and it makes the vein in my head want to explode. Chuck em in!!! Great post and love the idea! #DreamTeam x

  38. October 15, 2016 / 3:28 am

What a good idea! I can relate to a few of these! #FridayFrolics

  39. October 15, 2016 / 6:51 am

I have cats, but am a dog person and a bunny person more. My fav cat I have acts like a dog though, I know you hate them, my mums the same, but this cat Avari is hilarious she hangs out with the dogs and even prefers the dog food she is so weird. I agree with the tea bags, it is strange to me why if the bin is there you still put them in a sink, very strange. I haven’t heard of room 101 so this was new to me #dreamtaem

  40. October 15, 2016 / 1:04 pm

Not sure you’d like my hubby or me for the teabags scenario. I have a tendency to leave them on the chopping board and hubby uses them for fertiliser. #DreamTeam

    • October 15, 2016 / 2:23 pm

Haha this really made me laugh! No sorry, neither of those scenarios I could handle.

  41. October 16, 2016 / 1:09 pm

Recorders and whistles. Without a doubt! And maybe the people that brought them for my kids 😉 Thanks for linking up to #FridayFrolics

  42. October 18, 2016 / 9:18 pm

I love the idea of this…I would have spitting, flannels that have not been washed and laddered tights in my room! #stayclassymama xx

  43. October 20, 2016 / 7:07 pm

Haha – agree with you on ‘aks’ & teabags in sink! I like cats though. Hate dogs!

Thanks so much for joining us on #FridayFrolics. Hope to see you next time.

  44. October 24, 2016 / 10:51 pm

Lol this is a great idea for a game! Might try it round the Christmas table this year.. I can completely relate to the water cooler talk! Thankfully I spend most of my time working from home and I’m only in an office very rarely! Thanks for hosting #DreamTeam sorry my comments are late it took longer going self hosted than I thought! Xx
