We recently visited Pembrokeshire in Wales for the first time. Those beautiful beaches, a coastline that is totally different to what we have in Sussex. It’s certainly a trip that I have been wanting to take for a long time. The journey was longer than a usual day out. However it was all completely worth it when we visited two gorgeous places that were around us. Last week, I wrote about the Bluestone Resort but the beaches we saw are also well worth the journey to visit.
Tenby Beach
Only 12 miles away from the Bluestone Resort is the beautiful town of Tenby. Years ago, my stepson told me all about Pembrokeshire after he went on a camping trip in Tenby. He raved about it so much that I had been keen to take Emma! When we arrived, we walked down a big stairwell to arrive on the beach itself. The views were breathtaking; as we entered from a height with me clutching onto Emma, the Pembrokeshire coastline that I read about was right in front of me. Such a wide open sandy beach, with quaint pastel coloured beach houses on the hill behind. The beach houses always remind me of Brighton but the beach was like none we had visited. Emma was absolutely in her element and for the first time, didn’t run full pelt for the sea – I suppose because the beach was so big!
As she ambled towards the sea, spotting seashells and stones along the way, I marvelled at how she seemed like a dot in the distance. Being by the sea will always be the easiest way to entertain Emma. As soon as she sees the water, she instantly becomes calmer. So we just stared at the blue sea and then later drew her name in the sand. This beautiful Pembrokeshire beach was sandy too, something Emma is not used to! The houses up on the hill were so typically ‘seaside’, exactly as I’d imagined it to be. Afterwards we went for a little beachside lunch, feeling ever so slightly exhausted from all that sea air.
Barrafundle Bay
Before we set off on our trip, my bloggy friend Dawn of Rhyming With Wine gave me some tips on what to visit in Pembrokeshire. I hadn’t realised but Dawn is a bit of an expert on the area and Visit Wales should really have her on commission! One of the gems she told me about was Barrafundle Bay. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but it completely blew me away. As we walked towards the bay, it reminded me so much of a holiday we took to Capri years back – so secluded and unspoiled beauty.
We picked a particularly sunny day to visit and as we peered over the bay, the blue sea was glistening. It was beyond beautiful and I’m so glad we made the trip, despite a bit of sat nav trouble. After we had seen the gorgeous view, surely one of Pembrokeshire’s finest – we had a cheeky ice lolly together. This was Emma’s very first Mini Milk, which she ate so slowly that it dripped everywhere. A sign of things to come…
I’m sure there are many more beaches to visit in Pembrokeshire than we weren’t able to fit in. But these two beaches are ones we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend with young families and toddlers. I hope it’s not too long til we are back in Wales, I can’t believe how long it has taken us to make the trip!
Disclaimer: We were invited to stay at Bluestone to review their mid-week 4 night stay and while we were there, we saw these beautiful beaches. All views and opinions are my own.
Barrafundle Bay looks so beautiful!!
Lovely photos of lovely beaches! I have not been to Pembrokshire before but perhaps we should plan a visit, it looks like a very beautiful place.
Wow, wish we would have known about Barrafundle Bay when we were in Pembrokeshire! Tenby is lovely though. #dreamteam
It looks so beautiful! #DreamTeam
What beautiful beaches. They look heavenly! Sounds like you had a wonderful time.
I’m so pleased you enjoyed Barafundle. Sorry – I should have warned you about the sat nav issue but I assumed it was just ours! We’ve been 3 times now and do the same getting lost, turning round and retracing our steps bit every single time! It’s worth it though isn’t it? My favourite beach in the world I think! Thank you for the mention lovely xx
We’re just in process of booking our summer break to Pembrokeshire – thanks for the review, great to hear! X #DreamTeam
It looks lovely. We have been looking at taking a little trip somewhere and Pembrokeshire did crop up in our list. I may just have to delve a little bit further and look at booking a place. 🙂 x

It looks stunning, I like Wales, although I often think it gets a bad rep! Unfairly so as well. The coastline is just beautiful. #Dreamteam
we used to holiday in Tenby when I was a kid. I must take the boys there this summer #dreamteam
Wow! What beautiful pictures! We went to Pembrokeshire with the children when they were toddlers and it really was our best holiday ever. Its such a lovely, safe and stunning part of the world. Thank you for reminding me why we all loved it so much. x #DreamTeam
These beaches look beautiful. I have only been to three beaches in the UK, and they were not that nice. Skegness, Blackpool and Great Yarmouth
Absolutely stunning photos. I am feeling just a little in need of a trip to Pembrokeshire myself now #DreamTeam xx
Wow lovely photos! So beautiful #DreamTeam

Ah the first minimilk! childhood memories! #dreamteam
They look stunning. I really need to go to Wales again. It has been far too long. Glad you had a nice time! #DreamTeam
#dreamteam nice work, i love a UK beach – i still prefer a tropical paradise, but the UK has a vibe of its own and thats why i could never leave the south coast (unless a tropical beach was thrown in)
Wow! My friend recently moved down this way and we haven’t visited yet but she tells me the beaches are the best she has seen across the world. Your photos are amazing, and that blue sky makes me want to jump in the car and get down there instantly! I’m so glad you had a lovely time there! #dreamteam
I think everyone will be taking their littlies to the seaside this summer to calm them down now. #DreamTeam
Wow, this looks like you were somewhere exotic!! Not the UK – I really want to visit now #dreamteam
I am completely swooning right now because I miss the beaches near Bluestone so much. They are incredible! Beautiful captures of yourself and Emma. We went to Tenby too, and loved the wide stretch of sand and cute seaside town houses. Did you manage to climb up to see the castle? We didn’t get a chance to see Barrafundle bay, but its on top of my list for when we go back. #DreamTeam xx
I love Tenby. My husbands aunt has a static holiday caravan there so we are hoping to visit sometime this year again.
What beautiful places to see on earth. Thank you for sharing them with us! We have a beach trip planned this summer and I am counting the days! #dreamteam xoxo Oh, and BTW, your daughter is simply squeezable. <3
oooo can we go back???? We didnt go to any beaches as me and Hubby really cant stand sand. We love the look of beaches but once we’re there we get so bored and neither of us like the sea so it was all about finding castles for us. This beach does look stunning though! #dreamteam
