6 Months of Blogging: Goals & Priorities

Today my blog is six months old and at the same time my first day back at work. I just wanted to take a few moments to reflect on it all. What started off as just a few pictures of me and Emma down the park has evolved into something that I am fiercely proud of. It’s my baby and the only thing I’ve ever had which I have created from scratch – every detail on this blog is me through and through.

As I approached the six-month mark, I completed a 5 day productivity challenge with Aby from You Baby Me Mummy, which changed my perspective on organisation for my blog. When I decided to go back to work, I honestly worried that my blog would go down the pan…I was feeling quite down about that. But this course motivated me and made me realise that I can do this, if I get a bit organised and savvy using tools to help me.

One topic that we spoke about on the course was goals. Now this is something I am so rubbish at. Quite a few times I’ve read motivational posts about blogging and they ask you “what do you want out of your blog?”. I would always bury my head in the sand, and mumble something about how I love writing. But for once, with the help of a fantastic group of bloggers on the course who were positive and supportive, I have lifted my head back up and set myself some goals. I thought the 6 month milestone was a great time to reflect on them.

Consistency: Continue to post 3 times a week, but don’t feel guilty if I can’t.

Vlogging: Develop my YouTube channel a little more by engaging with the community.

Followers: Continue to build social media followings, focusing on Twitter and Facebook for the moment.

Photography: Practice a bit more to lessen the number of stock photos used on my blog.

And A Few Priorities

This is something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately…I’ve been feeling quite guilty as I’m often imbalanced with writing for my blog and family life. Now that I’m starting work again, life will be even busier and I know my time, especially with Emma and the boys will be less than it has ever been. For the first time, priorities are a bit more important, so I’m going to try and put the social media to one side after 9pm. I am truly addicted to my phone so we’ll see how that goes 😉

Above all, it’s good to remind myself sometimes why I started blogging in the first place. I just love writing and it was never any more than that when I began. Over time it has evolved, my writing style has become a bit clearer and I’ve also changed the look of the blog from those beginning weeks. But sometimes it’s easy to lose sight of why I pressed publish for the first time, how it felt to be recording the little memories I have with Emma.

Six months feels like a short space of time, and a milestone at the same time. I had no idea back in March the bonkers world I was about to step into, but it’s been fantastic and it’s wonderful to have something just for me that I can enjoy when I want a bit of escapism after work. So onto another six months of my ramblings I’m afraid, thanks for reading so far!

I remember reading a blog post by someone over a year ago about how much work was involved in maintaining her blog and I was totally shocked and now I am living it every day myself.
I still can’t believe your blog has only been going for six months as it seems very polished and professional. Makes me wonder what I have been doing with my time, ha ha!! I love writing, but I’m also a dreadful procrastinator.
Best of luck with your goals, am sure you will achieve them and more xx

Happy 6 months blogiversary!! I’ve always loved your posts, you have a wonderful, warming and comforting voice, which is so relatable! The course you did sounds fantastic, and it sounds like you took so much away from it. Good luck with the return to work, and finding the work/blog/life balance-it sounds like you’ve got a plan in place that will work! I need to work on my photography skills too-about 95% of the pictures I use are stock ones!!

Woohoo! Congratulations! Wishing you a very happy 6 months birthday! I really enjoyed this post; it’s great to see how much you’ve done and what can be achieved in a relatively short period of time with hard work and dedication. I started my blog properly back in July and am totally hooked, it really is quite addictive. I find a lot of inspiring posts, but this one has really struck a chord given the length of time you have been blogging. Thank you so much for sharing your goals with us and I hope your return to work goes smoothly. Looking forward to all your future posts x
